Emmy-nominated "Orange Is The New Black" as been gaining success in ways people cannot imagine. The series, created by Jenji Kohan, revolves around a women's prison putting a spotlight on the various characters and situations inmates have to go through.
"OITNB" has earned popularity from the LGBT community by exposing the lives of inmates who get physical with other female inmates as well, due to the lack of a male population in the prison. One of the writers on the show, Lauren Morelli, came out last fall after realizing she related to the story of the character of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) who was in a previous lesbian relationship with Alex Vause (Laura Prepon.)
According to TMZ, Morelli is now filing for divorce from her husband of two years, Steve Basilone. Morelli started to write for "OITNB" five months after she got married. As she was writing for the main character, Morelli "saw herself in the character" and felt like she was a fraud being married to a man.
TMZ added that as Morelli began writing about Piper's relationship with Alex, the writer stated, "I found a mouthpiece for my own desires and a glimmer of what my future could look like." Despite the divorce, TMZ reported that according to the obtained divorce documents, Morelli gets to keep the sapphire ring, her apartment and the Lexus while he still gets to drive his Mazda hatchback.
In addition, Perez Hilton reports not only will Morelli's divorce go smoothly but she has already found love in the form of Samira Wiley, a cast member of the show who plays Poussey. According to Entertainment Wise, Morelli and Wisely were seen leaving together at an after party from the Emmy's at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. They were also not shy of PDA as they were walking hand in hand together as they left. They also have hinted their discreet love for each other through their Instagram pages like Wisely calling Morelli her "woman crush" and another photo showing Wiley giving Morelli an affectionate kiss on her head.
