The sequel to "World War Z", the 2013 disaster zombie film directed by Marc Forster and which starred Brad Pitt, is rumored to have been delayed as Pitt and wife Angelina Jolie is scheduled to film a new movie together, according to a Kpopstarz report.
The rumor may be true as principal photography and production of the new film titled "By the Sea" began on August 19, 2014 in Malta, Collider reports. The upcoming American drama film is written and directed by Angelina Jolie.
The plan for "By the Sea" was publicized in May 2014, Deadline reports, when it was announced that Angelina Jolie was set to co-star with Brad Pitt in the said film. No other information has been given about the project but, according to The Hollywood Reporter, insiders speculate it could be a relationship drama that Jolie wrote some years ago and focused on a couple with issues who take a vacation in a last-ditch effort to save their marriage. This will be the second collaboration between Jolie and Pitt since "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", Hollywood reporter added.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat of Malta confirmed the movie project, On Location Vacation reports. "I'm happy that Hollywood producers have once again chosen Malta for their project," said the Prime Minister, "and we will be delighted to host Mr. Pitt, Ms. Jolie, and their family for the second time in just a few years." On Location Vacation added that the last time the family graced the island was in 2011 when Pitt filmed "World War Z." In a report by the Times of Malta, "By the Sea" will be partially filmed at Mġarr ix-Xini, a bay on the Maltese island of Gozo.
Nevertheless, it seems that production for the "World War Z" sequel would still move forward. In December 2013, Indiewire reported that Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona, who directed the 2012 drama film "The Impossible", was chosen to direct a sequel to "World War Z", taking over the reigns from Marc Forster. In May 2014, British screenwriter and film director Steven Knight, fresh off strong reviews for his experimental drama and Tom Hardy starrer "Locke", has been set to write the sequel for Paramount Pictures and Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, according to a report by TheWrap.
