Xbox and Xbox Live have been doing their "Games with Gold" program for quite a while, and now Sony and Playstation are fighting back with a promotion of their own. According to Load the Game, a new promotion over Playstation Plus is about to begin, entitled the "Open Weekend."
With the promotion, Playstation users can play online using Playstation Plus entirely for free, beginning this Friday, September 26 and will end the following Monday. A Playstation Plus subscription typically costs $9.99 a month, although it can be cheaper if you buy more than one month at a time.
As well, just like "Games with Gold," subscribers to Playstation Plus also get a bevy of free games every month. The Epoch Times has the first game for October's freebies- "Driveclub" will officially be available for free next month. Although, it's not clear from their reports which platforms it'll be available on- typically, the free games are different for each console- Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and the Playstation Vita.
This was officially confirmed by Fred Dutton of Sony, who posted about Driveclub on an official Sony forum. Here's the full text of his post:
"Driveclub will be in addition to you regular PS Plus allocation. There's loads of content included. Do try it out - I think you'll have a great time with it, and at no additional cost to your wallet."
The Epoch Times also has a list of potential October free games- some of the biggest being "Injustice: Gods Among Us," "Octodad: Dadliest Catch" and "Assassin's Creed: Black Flag." All solid titles, and all aimed at completely different audiences- something for everyone.
