Soo Young speaks out about Jessica's exit from Girls' Generation; The Asian pop idol industry too harsh and strict on their talent?

By

Girls' Generation member Soo Young, real name Choi Soo-Young gave out a statement on the television program "One Night TV Entertainment" on the situation of former member Jessica being kicked out from the group.

All Kpop reported that Soo Young said in the interview, "I'm distressed and apologetic to have to suddenly relay this news. Your heart must be heavy, but I hope your members use this time to gather together and turn a misfortune into a blessing." She goes on to say that, "I'll work even harder for the people who are cheering on Girls' Generation. I apologize."

A short clip of the show has been uploaded on YouTube can be found here.

This is the first time any of the members of the popular K-pop group have commented on the sudden exit of their former member Jessica.

It was just at the end of last September that S.M. Entertainment announced on their official Korean website that Jessica Sooyoun Jung was being released from the popular K-pop group Girls' Generation. But before the announcement Jessica wrote a weird post on her personal Weibo account and many fans were wondering if this was true or if her account was hacked.

The post reads:

"I was excited about our upcoming fan events only to shockingly be informed by my company and 8 others that as of today, I'm no longer a member. I'm devastated - my priority and love is to serve as a member of GG, but for no justifiable reason, I am being forced out."

The validity of the Weibo post was quickly confirmed when the remaining eight members of Girls' Generation were spotted on an airport going to China for an event with Jessica nowhere to be found. And of course later that day S.M. Entertainment announced it officially.

Many fans felt that Jessica was in the right especially since the pop idol industry in Asia is really harsh like the Japanese Pop Idol, Minami Minegishi who shaved her head as an apology for dating someone.

Could this be the same case for the Korean Pop Idol industry? Many believed that popular idols should be "pure" and never indulge in anything vulgar or be in relationships to make fans believe that they would not do anything that would ruin their image of perfection.
