After a few months of struggle, hit drama 'Longmire' is officially cancelled. Its network A&E decided to call off the show because its viewers have a median age of 60, and A&E needs a viewership of 48-years-old or younger for advertising reasons.Sadly, Season 3 of "Longmire" ended in a cliffhanger with no ending in sight, reported JBGNews.
It's already obvious that the non-renewal of the show is due to financial issues. A&E cannot bring advertisers to the show because most of its viewers are "too old" so the advertisers cannot be interested. The network needs profit, and "Longmire" failed to bring it in. The advertisers prefer a younger audience to sell their products to.
As with all other series, although it's undeniably hanging, 'Longmire' must come to an end. However, the disgruntled fans - meaning millions of them - are heavily disappointed and demanded that the crime drama be brought back on air, or else they will boycott the network.
According to the October 20th edition of GLOBE Magazine, a campaign calling for a new network to pick the show up has also begun. Viewers are asking for a popular network, such as USA Network or Netflix, to scoop up the series and continue where Season 3 left off, reported CelebrityDirty Laundry. This includes letter-writing campaigns and internet posts pressuring cable companies to annul A&E from their subscription packages. This group call themselves "The Longmire Posse" and there are 30,000 of them campaigning for a network to grab it.
Earlier reports claim that the series found suitors in USA, WGN America, and AMC. This is very likely but as of now, nothing seems to validate this. Publicly, only Netflix has been the viable option. However, no doors are being closed and everything is open for possibility, reported Cartermatt
