CL of the K-pop group 2NE1 is reported to be taking her first shot at the U.S. music market.
According to Idolator, the 23-year-old South Korean superstar will be guided by Scooter Braun who also handles Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and another global K-pop artist, Psy.
CL, also known as Lee Chae Rin, is the lead vocalist and rapper of the globally famous K-pop group 2NE1. Her "The Baddest Female" single was released last year and became a hit and even made some strides in other countries, including the United States.
According to Billboard, YG Entertainment, 2NE1 and CL's record label, has confirmed that CL is preparing for her plans "to cross over to America next year."
The article mentioned that while CL's group has not made an official debut in the U.S, their music has made great strides in the highly competitive market.
"Chart-wise, 2NE1′s Crush album holds the U.S. record for highest-charting K-pop album ever with the best first week sales for a Korean album, plus 2NE1 is the only non-PSY K-pop artist to hit No. 1 on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. The quartet was also the first female Korean act to hold solo concerts in American arenas," Billboard's report reads.
Other than being an impressive singer, rapper, and dancer, CL is also known as a fashion icon in the K-pop industry, just like other 2NE1 members, Dara, Bom, and Minzy. She has made friends with some of the famous names in fashion including Nicola Formichetti and Jeremy Scott.
"I want to represent Asian women," CL told Billboard. "I want to break that typical Asian female stereotype. There's this standard where they're all calm. I want to break that. I want to tell the world that there are some badass Asian female girls."
Meanwhile, the K-pop star graced the cover of South Korean fashion and lifestyle magazine, "Dazed and Confused". CL worked with fashion editor and Diesel artistic director Nicola Formichetti.
