Eli of K-pop idol group U-KISS was confirmed to be playing the male lead role in the upcoming Chinese adaptation of Korean drama "Full House."
The drama remake will be produced by Group Eight, according to KpopStarz. The production company is the one behind other drama adaptations including "Boys Over Flowers" and the recently released "Tomorrow's Cantabile."
Representatives of Group Eight announced the project on October 17, saying they have agreed to collaborate with Asia Media Holdings for the remake of the popular 2004 drama.
Eli, a Korean-American member of U-KISS is not only fluent in English, but also in Mandarin. While the idol has limited experience in drama, KpopStarz noted that this new opportunity to be a lead star would be of great help to his career as an artist.
Meanwhile, an extensive audition for the female lead is reportedly ongoing, according to Koreaboo. The website also wrote that the production is preparing for their first press conference in Shanghai, on October 23. The website also said the production team is targeting a full-scale filming by December.
KPop Herald reported that Korean star producer Lee Min Cheol will direct the upcoming drama.
"Full House" is originally based on the popular comic and was made into drama in 2004. The drama, which featured Rain and Song Hye Kyo as lead stars, was considered to be one of the most excellent dramas in the Hallyu Wave.
The story of "Full House" revolves around a famous actor and an aspiring writer who fell in love with each other after a fake marriage. A spin-off sequel titled "Full House Take 2" was aired in 2012. The drama featured Hwang Jung Eum, No Minwoo and Park Ki Woong.
Still, there is no news yet on how faithful the Chinese version will be to the original story.
