K-pop female idol group 2NE1 continues to get attention in the United States music industry as their popular song, "I Am the Best" becomes a favorite among radio stations.
According to Billboard, the song was played 24 times on WBMP New York and 14 times on WODS Boston in the week ending October 19. Both radio stations posted reports on their respective websites about 2NE1 and the electronic-hip-hop Korean track. WODS Boston even went to invite their website visitors to listen to the song on air.
A couple of weeks ago, the track earned its best sales week in the United States, with reportedly 6,000 copies sold. Billboard reports that it is currently at the No. 2 spot on its World Digital Songs chart following 3,000 sales in the week ending October 12 and another 3,000 in the previous week.
The track's fame started after it was featured in the ad of Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet laptop.
2NE1 has a strong appeal in the U.S. market because of their songs' unique vibe that are mostly hip-hop and reggae, not to mention impressive and excellently produced music videos. The group, which is composed of CL, Dara, Bom, and Minzy, was South Korea's first female act to have a stadium show in the United States. The group was also featured on will.i.am's album titled "#willpower."
Early this month, the iconic music video of "I Am the Best" which was released on June 2011, reached 100 million views on YouTube. The video featured the girls with their edgy fashion and energetic dance moves.
Meanwhile, it was recetly reported that 2NE1 member CL is preparing for her debut in the U.S. The 23-year-old idol will be working with Scooter Braun who is also known for handling a roster of music artists such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and the U.S. breakout of 2NE1 labelmate, PSY.
