"Modern Family" season 6 episode 6 "Halloween 3: AwesomeLand" has Claire (Julie Bowen) not holding the reins for Halloween decorations, which lead to the Dunphy family having more rainbows instead of "blood and gore."
The Halloween episode of "Modern Family" had Claire Dunphy celebrating her favorite holiday, but not with her own choices this time. In past Halloween episodes of the show, Claire has decorated their home and has dressed up in a gruesome costume, but because of work, this year Phil (Ty Burrell) decided the theme, "AwesomeLand." "Phil being Phil decided to go for an AwesomeLand theme: rainbows, glitters and happiness," shares Movie News Guide.
The theme didn't stick around most of the episode, however. When Claire heard of a scary show being set up by the neighbors, she competed by changing the theme to Asylum, but after being guilt-tripped by Amber (Andrea Anders), and with Phil wearing a rainbow tux in protest, Claire went back to AwesomeLand. According to TV Fanatic, their "medical marijuana dispenser neighbors" felt offended with the Asylum because Amber had been in one. However, this was apparently only a ploy for them to win the award for scariest house on the block.
Meanwhile, Cam (Eric Stonestreet) dressed up as Superman before having to dress up in the same costume as Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons), which was Waldo, a character that he couldn't find in the book. As a result, Movie News Guide reports Cam having "a hard time looking for Waldo/Lily" in the school and even enlisted Mitch's (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) help via Facetime.
As for Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and Jay (Ed O'Neill), they were dressed up as Princess Fiona and Shrek, but Jay eventually bought a Prince Charming costume instead of "playing the beast to his princess."
The Halloween episode was filled with fun and surprised, but it wasn't just the episode that had fans in surprise. Apparently, it has been reported as cancelled thanks to satire websites and actor Stonestreet propagating the rumors via Twitter.
According to Latinos Post, on October 30, Stonestreet tweeted a link to an article saying that "Modern Family" has been cancelled, and fans who had read the article were apparently devastated. The article originates from a website called Click Hole, which says that the show has been axed "to teach people that something you love can be taken from you with no warning whatsoever."
E! News confirms that the site writes satire much like "The Onion" and Latinos Post adds, "'Modern Family' is the recipient to four Emmys, not to mention one of the top-rated comedy series on TV these days," which would make it not that easy to cancel.
