"Selfie," sadly is no more. Last week, ABC cancelled their comedy about a self-absorbed woman who spends her entire life on social media, and the marketing guru she hires to improve her image.
Variety reports that the series was suffering from sub-par ratings- averaging only 4.7 million viewers, and that it wasn't the only recent casualty from ABC- "Manhattan Love Story" was also given the axe.
However, the story for "Selfie" doesn't end here. According to Fashion & Style, "Selfie" had a lot of fans, and the show's cancellation has made them very mad. A new petition has just been started on Change.org, and it already has more than 15,000 supporters.
The petition, entitled "Save Selfie," calls the series a "hilarious comedy" and that fans of the show should get the word out in as many ways as possible.
"While the show is still on the air, please help get the word out about Selfie. Tell your friends, family, and coworkers to watch it and tweet to @ABCNetwork using the hashtag #SaveSelfie," pleaded petition creator, Erika Lawson.
While Change.org petitions don't always succeed, that's the way to uncancel a TV series- mass media warfare. Fans of "Longmire" have been doing the same thing for months, and they've nearly gotten the show back on the air. To bring back any TV show, you need a fan following- that's how "Arrested Development" and "Family Guy" returned.
As well, Fashion & Style has testimonials from the masses of fans, stating their reasons why the show should be brought back from the dead. Most of the reasons tend to be how funny the series is, and that it stars John Cho, and that Asian-American leads are very rare on television.
For all we know, this may be the beginning of a months-long internet TV fan war. Prepare yourselves.
