‘2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards’ updates: Taeyang, Ailee, EXO, and Super Junior leading in their respective award categories

With the "2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards," one of the biggest and most highly anticipated music events in Korea this year, is just around the corner. Fans can continue to support their favorite K-pop acts through voting on the official MAMA 2014 website.

With barely a little over five days before voting closes on December 2, fans from all over the world have already cast almost 50 million votes. According to the website's current ranking page on November 27, 49% of the votes (21 million) came from China while 26.6% (11.4 million votes) came from Southeast Asian nations. Only 10.8% of the votes (4.6 million) are from Korea while fans from Japan and the United States cast 853,000 (2%) and 827,000 (1.9%) votes, respectively.

YG's rookie group WINNER stays in the lead for the Best New Artist award with 33% of votes, while JYP's new group GOT7 is in close second with 32.1%.

Big Bang member Taeyang stays strong on his spot in the Best Male Artist ranking. The idol has received 32.5% of votes while his competitor, Hallyu star, Rain has received 25.1% of votes. Taeyang is also on the lead for the Best Vocal Performance Male award with 35.7% for his hit song "Eyes, Nose Lips." In second place is K.Will for his track "Day 1."

Diva Ailee and Korea's sweetheart IU are meanwhile in a close fight for two award categories. For the Best Female Artist ranking, Ailee is currently on the lead with 27.1%, followed by IU with 23.3%. Ailee's fans are seemingly showing their continuous support as the singer is also on the lead for the Best Vocal Performance Female award with 32.2%. Her competitor for the award is also IU, who has received 25.4% of the votes.

SM Entertainment male groups Super Junior and EXO are in the lead for the Best Male Group award. Since the voting started, the votes have been fluctuating, with the two groups alternately claiming the top spot. As of November 27, the more senior group SuJu has received 35.8%, thanks to their strong fanbase all over the world known as ELF. EXO, who is also a widely followed group, has received 31%.

The same megagroups are in competition for the UnionPay Artist of the Year award. SuJu has 24.2% of votes while EXO received 19.2 %.

For the Best Female Group award, it is a battle between YG Entertainment's global group 2NE1 and SM Entertainment's marquee group Girls' Generation. The two groups are in a close fight with 2NE1 having 25.5% of the votes and SNSD with 25.2%, a matter of 150,000 votes in between.

For the Best Dance Performance Male Group category, EXO has recently regained it lead from their senior label mates TVXQ. EXO's "Overdose" has received 38.1% while the duo's "Something" has received 32.1%. Same artists are also competing for the UnionPay Song of The Year. The 10-member group's "Overdose" has received 32.4% of votes while TVXQ's "Something" has received 18.8%.

"Hush" by missA is in the leading with 30.9% of votes while Girl's Day's "Something" is on the second spot with 24.5% followed closely by SISTAR's "Touch my Body" with 22.9%.

The award ceremony will be held at the Hong Kong AsiaWorld Expo on December 3, and will be attended by numerous artists in the K-pop industry as well as an impressive line of actors to present awards.
