It was recently reported that K-pop female idol group 2NE1 will be attending the SBS Gayo Daejun on December 21 without Park Bom, who was previously involved in a drug controversy.
Broadcast affiliates stated on December 10 that 2NE1 is expected to attend the upcoming SBS Gayo Awards. Also on December 10, staff of the award show told Newsen that they are still in talks about 2NE1's attendance, Enews reports.
As to whether the "I Am the Best" girls are performing at the upcoming event, there is no confirmation yet, KpopStars reports.
It can be recalled that it was previously reported that the group will not be attending year-end award shows. This came after news about Park Bom's drug issues surfaced. According to reports, Bom tried to bring in 82 pills of amphetamines to Korea from the U.S. back in 2010 but she was caught by the customs department. While the drug is accepted in many countries, it is banned in Korea because of the potential harms it can cause when abused.
According to Kpop Herald, Bom will be taking more time off after the controversy. The singer withdrew from the season one of SBS reality show, "Roommate," earlier this year. She stated, "I apologize for everything that has happened through this incident. I don't think I will be able to film for the show anymore."
Meanwhile, 2NE1 made a successful comeback early this year with double title songs "Comeback Home" and "Gotta Be You." They has also gained popularity overseas. According to YG, the group has many contracts and promotions in different countries lined up. Add to that their series of fan meetings in various countries through their "All or Nothing" world tour.
Moreover, this year's SBS Gayo Awards marks it comeback after eight years since its final broadcast in 2006. The event will be part of the SBS Awards Festival that will take place from December 20 to 31 at the COEX C Hall in Samsung. The festival also includes SBS Entertainment Awards and SBS Drama Awards.
