On Tuesday night, the 9 contestants performed to get the Wild Card spot for the seventh season of "The Voice." America witnessed the singing prowess of Reagan James, Jessie Pitts, Ryan Sill, Anita Antoinette, Taylor John Williams, Damien, Sugar Joans, Luke Wade and DaNica Shirey, who all sang their swan songs to garner the coveted spot and the chance to become this season's champion.
Entertainment Weekly said that James and Pitts certainly did not impress American voters enough votes due to their lackluster performances. Wade, on the other hand, has drowned in the stellar performances delivered by Sill, Antoinette and Shirey. However, Hypable said that America voted one of their two favorites in the season, Damien of Team Adam, who sang "Grenade" by Bruno Mars. The International Business Times noted that Damien's performance might have been more than enough to edge out this season's underdog, Joans of Team Pharell, who sang Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black."
Damien's Wild Card win had many think that Team Adam might win this year. Adam has two past season winners already under his belt, just one champion shy of Team Blake at three winners, Hypable said. But predictions at betting site Gold Derby indicated that Team Adam would win this year, but not because of Damien.
According to Gold Derby, Damien's team member, Matt McAndrew, will snag the championship this year at 14/5 odds to win in the finale. The Maroon 5 singer and coach was quoted by IBTimes saying after McAndrew's semi-finals performance of "Make it Rain" by Ed Sheeran, ""I can't throw anything at this guy that he can't absolutely destroy, and I'm telling you right now, there isn't anybody in this competition who can do that other than Matt McAndrew."
Even Blake seems to agree too. He called McAndrew's performance then a performance worthy of a Grammy. Season judge Gwen Stefani chimed in and said, "The tone in your voice, it just gives me chills every time."
