Motorola has been working on delivering the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on its devices. Fortunately, for Moto G2 users, they should have access to the update already. Motorola confirmed the official rollout in the United States and Europe. While Motorola has not provided specific dates, the release should happen. Motorola has already the first and second generations Moto G and the latest Moto X running with the Lollipop. Other devices to receive the upgrade next are as follows (via Phone Arena): Motorola Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, Moto E and Moto X (2013 edition).
According to Air Herald, one of the reasons why Motorola can upgrade its devices faster compared to most manufacturers because it does not tweak the source code as much. Other companies need to modify the skin and interface further which Motorola manages to avoid often. While details about the Android Lollipop experience in the Moto G2 are limited, the report also notes that people should expect better battery life and multitasking experience from the update.
Phone Arena and NDTV also report the upcoming release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Xperia Z zeries around February. Last October, the company did mention that it will be brining the Lollipop firmware to the entire premium series of Xperia Z. At the last CES 2015, the company confirmed the schedule of the roll out. Last January 6, Sony's Mobile global PR team confirmed the same tweeting the following: "our initiative to bring #Android 5.0 Lollipop to the entire Xperia Z Series - starting globally from next month." The official release will be delivered to the following units: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
HTC flagships, One M7 and One M8, are expected to receive the update one to two weeks from. The company was supposed to carry out the rollout last January 3 but missed the deadline.
