'Resident Evil' Review: Game Series in Spencer Mansion, Raccoon City with HD Remaster Edition relive thrills; Screen ratio unveiled

By

Just like the virus that started wrecking havoc in Raccoon City, the nerve racking and jaw clenching master of zombie survival games, Resident Evil, never stopped making itself bigger and better. Now, it just got a makeover with several improvements on the scenarios, brilliant graphics and edgier escape and evasion stunts to pull off; with the improvements added, the phrase "nothing beats a classic" could might as well be an understatement, reportedly.

The game would reel the player back to the Spencer Mansion where the player can choose which of the two mainstay protagonists, local special operatives Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, to play with and keep alive while puzzles are solved, zombies are properly disposed by shooting them on the head or burning them and labyrinths are threaded.

Most of the improvements are on the game's graphics, which GameCube spearheaded in 2002. Since then, the game currently has an HD remaster edition, which makes playing it on the latest game consoles even more terrific. Add to that, the PC edition also gives the player a few more quirks especially when adjusting the screen ratio to give a more exciting feel to the blood draining spectacle that only Resident Evil can deliver.

Nonetheless, the new versions on the game controls, particularly in the PC edition make old time players make a little more nervous as characters are a bit difficult to move. However, this would not dim the entire game experience and could offer a fresh perspective to new players.

Despite all the redressing and improvements aimed at making the good old game golden once again, Resident Evil remains a classic that even after bearing the brunt of graphic glitches, it's a game the continues to make the skin crawl with its eerie soundtrack, ghoulish environment and that unnerving phrase mocking the player's failure to endure . . . "you are dead."
