George Lucas Seems Not to Appear on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"; Disney Rejects Projects as Strained Relationship Heats Up

By

It's no secret that George Lucas and "Star Wars" have a bit of a strained relationship. After that whole prequel thing, no one's really itching to see Lucas back in the director's chair. Or the writer's room. Or... honestly, related to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in any official fashion.

It's awkward. And it continues to be awkward, because it's just come out that Lucas had a whole brainful of ideas about where "The Force Awakens" should be headed. And Disney totally ignored them. Although that's probably for the best.

Lucas revealed this in an interview with Cinema Blend. Here's his full comment below.

"The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn't really want to do those. So they made up their own. So it's not the ones that I originally wrote [on screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens]."

This isn't the first time this has happened to Lucas. Earlier this year, he revealed (via a piece in Digital Spy) that he had been planning his own sequel trilogy to "Star Wars" and was planning to make those films before selling Lucasfilm. But Disney came a-callin' at the right time, and the rest is history.

Now, what ideas Lucas had are entirely up in the air. Entertainment Weekly isn't even sure if he actually planned out a story, or just had a couple vague ideas he wanted to pitch to Disney. It's not even clear if the same sequel trilogy he wanted to make before selling the company was the one he pitched to the House of Mouse- for all we know, he had scrapped that particualar idea by then. But whatever Lucas's hypothetical "Episode VII" was, it's certainly not going to be found in "The Force Awakens" in any way, shape or form.
