"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Cast: Peter Mayhew hospitalized due to Pneumonia; Chewbacca star confirms return for filming

By

Peter Mayhew, the actor most famous for portraying Chewbacca in the "Star Wars" films, has been hospitalized for pneumonia. But don't worry- according to many sources close to the famous Wookiee, he should be just fine. Despite the high risks of pneumonia, Mayhew is already in recovery.

TMZ first broke the story, reporting that Mayhew was scheduled to make an appearance at a comic book shop in Texas to promote a new "Star Wars" comic. But Mayhew cancelled, citing his sudden illness, causing fans to become seriously upset (Mayhew is 70, and at that age pneumonia can be very serious).

But he's fine, now. First, on a Reddit post about Mayhew's condition, the fan-favorite "Star Wars" actor's wife, Angie Mayhew, posted using his account, saying that Mayhew was recovering nicely.

"Peter is indeed in the hospital with pneumonia.

He will make a full recovery, and hope to be discharged within a few days. Doctors are incredibly happy with his improvements.

Sorry for the absence, we left our tablets at home, so we have been unable to post to reddit for a bit. I'll make sure he pops in later in the day."

As well, on Mayhew's official Twitter account, the webmaster for Mayhew's websites posted another message, assuring the fans that Mayhew was in good (or better, anyway) health.

"Peter is recovering well from his bout of pneumonia. He thanks you for the well wishes!!!"

Mayhew will need to rest up- most likely, he'll be making the rounds on many, many press tours to accompany "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" this fall, in which he'll be starring. As well, the actor is most likely (as far as anyone knows, anyway) set to be involved in some capacity with the next two "Star Wars" sequels, along with the spin-offs. There's still plenty of Chewbacca to come.
