There is much to expect when "Once Upon a Time" returns for its midseason premiere in March 1 including the addition of the Queens of Darkness and how they are related with Rumplestiltskin.
While "Once Upon a Time" is on hiatus, series co-creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis has shared some tidbits on what to expect for episode 13, "Darkness on the Edge of Town," and the second half of season 4 after Rumple got banished.
First up, according to IB Times, Rumplestiltskin's banishment from Storybrooke will not be the end of "Rumbelle." Kitsis told TV Line, "Rumple and Belle have been through a lot together, and despite how it may have felt in the midseason finale, their story is not over."
While a reunion might not be seen soon, Rumple has kept busy with other things. Kitsis is reported sharing with TV Line, "Now he (Rumple) is a man without magic in a land where he is very much not in control, so he's beginning to see what she (Regina) said. He has reached a point in his life where he is now asking for help, he can't do it alone, and he thinks that Regina is on to something."
Regina is intent on finding the author after stating that "Villains don't get a happy ending."
Season 4A closed the book on its "Frozen" arc and sent the Arendelle inhabitants back home, and in Season 4B, new additions will be added in their place. In fact, three Queens of Darkness are set to make an appearance.
ET Online says that the show's return in March will show that six weeks have already passed after the Spell of Shattered Sight and the co-creators of the show hinted that Rumplestiltskin has used the time to track down the evil trio.
Cruella De Vil, Ursula, and Maleficent will land in Storybrooke, with Horowitz revealing that their take on Cruella will show something different. "If viewers watch what we have in store, you'll see that while honoring some of the history behind the character, we're putting a twist on Cruella's background that involves the Enchanted Forest and a dollop of magic," Horowitz shared. Kitsis added that Cruella's magic leans towards dealing with animals.
Cruella will be played by Victoria Smurfit, Maleficent will be portrayed by Kristin Bauer, and Ursula will be animated by Merrin Dungey.
However, despite the addition of the three Queens of Darkness to Season 4B, Kitsis clarifies that Rumple "is absolutely the Big Bad."
Kitsis also mentioned the Queens of Darkness having a connection with Snow and Charmin, which will be revealed in a backstory. Apart from that, the Queens of Darkness also apparently have a past with Regina.
Apart from the three additions, JoAnna Garcia Swisher will be returning as Ariel. New characters will also be seen as the show returns.
