Apart from the NFL season that would be heating up the viewing habits of many Americans next week and the massive northeast blizzard that would be sending the mercury dramatically southward, communities from River Fall, Massachusetts would be preparing for the court trial of a local bred hero, Aaron Hernandez, who once showed promise as a professional football player, until that day he was charged with murder.
Associate Justice Susan Garsh confirmed the selection of all 18 members of the jury for the murder trial of former tight end of the New England Patriots on Monday. The jury composed of 13 women and five men, all of which were interview by Garsh to ensure a fair and impartial trial on Hernandez who was once dubbed as a young athlete with potential.
The trial was moved on Thursday, Jan. 29th, due to the expected bad weather that was predicted to develop into a snowstorm. This rescheduling of the trial followed the temporary closure of public schools and government offices due to the snowstorm.
Hernandez appeared in court on Monday along with his lawyers. Also in the courtroom was the mother of murder victim Odin Lloyd. Hernandez was charged with the shooting and eventual killing of Lloyd on June 17, 2013. Lloyd's body was found peppered with bullets at an industrial park nearby where Hernandez lived.
Based on witness accounts Hernandez was seen having an argument with the semi-professional football player, Lloyd, after Hernandez saw him mingling with a crowd Hernandez disliked.
Since the case was opened, other charges against Hernandez have been emerging, from other gun shooting incidents to alleged illegal arms trafficking. A couple of Hernandez' former teammates have also testified against him on the other charges pressed on him.
Before the incident, Hernandez, who's in his mid-20's and in his prime, signed a $41 million contract with the New England Patriots.
