27 Dead In Multiple Attacks In Sinai — ISIS Affiliate Claims To Be Responsible; Is the Egyptian Army Failing at Dissolving its Militants?

By

Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, a jihadis militant group of Egypt, have claimed to be the mastermind between the series of deadly attacks that claimed the lives of 25 soldiers, an army major and a police officer. After their declaration of allegiance to the ISIS (Islamic State) last November, they have been in coordination with the international terrorist group, plotting to cause chaos in their respective countries. Reports say that the militants attacked the army bases, police hotel and more than a dozen checkpoints, leaving more than 60 civilians wounded.

A PLANNED SABOTAGE

A few hours before the incident, the official Twitter account of the ISIS posted pictures of masked men dressed in black, holding the Islamic State flag, training and holding high grade explosives such as mortar and rocket-propelled grenades. They gave out a warning that says, "an extensive simultaneous offensive for the soldiers of the caliphate". Haaretz reports.

They also posted a video, threatening that they will be taking down the security building next to the army base in el-Arish with two suicide bombers and three car bombs, wherein in a few hours, the attack did take place. More attacks will push through, the statement added.

Ahmed Samir, the army's spokesman, said that this attack was a counter-offense of the enemy due to the "a result of successful strikes from armed forces and police on the terrorists in the last period", The Guardian writes.

Arish, the region's capital, was the most area that suffered the most. The attack was made before midnight, using car bombs, suicide bombers and mortars.

Based on the army's spokesperson's claim, the casualties happened due to its successful strike against the terrorists but according to some reports, they have been laying heavy and strict laws on the North-East Sinai, wherein the terrorists are located. But the attempts to crush the group's power and terror over the country seems to be quite short from its target.

How many lives will ISIS claim next before international authorities will be able to stop them? And when will this horror of injustice end? Tune in for more updates.
