Samsung Galaxy S6 will be coming with a mobile payment system to rival Apple's. In competition with Apple Pay, Samsung's payment system dubbed as Samsung Pay will allegedly be included in the Samsung Galaxy S6, to be unpacked in Barcelona, Spain on March 1 on a pre-MWC event.
Samsung has sent out invites for a March 1 Galaxy Unpacking event to be held in Barcelona, Spain. The invites to the unpacking of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge has already been sent out to media, developers, and analysts yesterday, Value Walk reports. Along with the invitations, talks of what can be expected with the unveiling of Samsung Galaxy S6 come to the surface.
According to reports, the Galaxy's new offering will be having a metal casing along with "toned-down version of TouchWiz interface."
Aside from the body, many are curious about the deal Samsung has made with Visa. The upcoming flagship phone is expected to have a mobile payment system to rival Apple Pay based on LoopPay technology.
Samsung Galaxy S6 is also expected to have a non-swipe fingerprint scanner, which is allegedly used for making payments via fingerprint sensor. This feature is in contrast with Samsung Galaxy S5's "swipe type" fingerprint sensor.
LoopPay technology will not be limited to the Samsung Galaxy S6, reports suggest. Apparently, touch-enabled cases are coming for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 as well. LoopPay works by using magnetic waves in lieu of the magnetic stripes found on credit cards. Apple Pay's secure tokenization, which hides account numbers, will also be featured in this year's LoopPay improvements.
A notable difference between Apple Pay and Samsung Pay is the earlier relying on NFC technology, while the latter using magnetic secure transmission (MST) technology courtesy of LoopPay. Unlike NFC, which requires NFC readers, MST technology does not require extra hardware to communicate with terminals.
This is not the first time talks of Samsung including a payment system in their smartphones has surfaced. At the Mobile World Congress two years ago, Samsung and Visa Europe has reached an agreement for an NFC-based payment system followed up by an agreement with Mastercard three months later. The payment system was expected along with Samsung Galaxy S5.
While Samsung's payment system could be successful, EE Times thinks the Korean company needs to be "bold" in order to take advantage of the "enormous opportunity." The article mentions, "Since the introduction of the iPhone 6 and Apple Pay back in September Apple has been able to capture a significant piece of the US mobile payments market, to almost catch up with Samsung in number of smartphones sold in Q4 2014."
Apart from the payment system to rival Apple Pay, Samsung Galaxy S6 is also reported to have an iPhone like body, shares NDTV. This is after images of the alleged smartphone have been revealed to show "house speaker grille and charging port at the bottom panel while the cut-outs for the antennas are also visible." Moreover, the article adds, "The handset in the leaked images is seen sporting rounded edges."
Samsung Galaxy S6 will also have Pay with Paypal.
