Samsung Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update ongoing on Sprint handsets with plans to update Samsung Note 4 late in February.
The rollout for the latest Android operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, is currently available for Sprint users of the Samsung Galaxy S5, giving the device the anticipated overhaul of the Android OS and introducing the Material Design changes to the TouchWiz UI. According to iDigitalTimes, the update also brings about "general performance improvements, notification changes, and battery life improvements."
Moreover, Lollipop also promises changes to voice-over Wi-Fi interface. The Lumen toolbar is also apparently removed.
Users gearing up for the update needs 3GB of internal storage in order to download the 898.44MB system upgrade with build number G900PVPU1AOA6. Once installed, it will take up 950 MB of space. Samsung Galaxy S5 users can update manually using the Settings->About phone->Check for updates option, but manually flashing the device can also be done at Samsung Experience Store. Samsung Experience Store can be found on select Best Buy branches.
The OTA update is also available through Samsung Kies.
Update on Sprint's Samsung Galaxy S5 devices follow after news of Lollipop coming to HTC One M7, says Phandroid. Sprint is the third largest carrier in the US, and it is not the only one gearing for the update.
Gotta be Mobile mentions Verizon also starting with the roll out, with Android 5.0 coming to Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Note 4 smartphones.
While talks about Note 4 receiving the update are currently unconfirmed and no details have been released as to when the update might be available OTA, the news is apparently "gaining ground as carriers continue to confirm its arrival ahead of time."
"Both of these updates are expected to make a strong push in the early part of the year," the article adds.
Outside of the US, French carrier SFR also confirmed the arrival of Lollipop on Galaxy S5. Phones under the carrier are reported to have the update before February ends.
Additionally, Rogers, a Canadian carrier, also revealed that Lollipop will be "coming soon."
