Sam Smith and Mary J. Blige's performance received applause and even comments that they "saved" the Grammy's. Surprising the audience, Smith's "Stay With Me" number brought Blige onstage.
Smith and Blige performed a "gospel-tinged" version of the song "Stay With Me" at the Grammys, with the performance featuring a large orchestra, Hollywood Reporter says.
Apart from the orchestra, the two singers were also joined by a choir for the performance.
The performance with Blige received favorable response, with some even saying that Smith's beautiful vocals were given "an extra jolt of energy" from Blige's contribution.
Smith is one of the leading contenders at the Grammys, tying with Beyonce and Pharrell Williams with six nominations each. Apart from Best New Artist, Smith also earned nominations for Album of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Vocal Album.
The award for Best New Artist has been presented to him by singer Taylor Swift, who also introduced the performance with Blige. Hollywood Life also mentions Swift mentioning having "more than a little" obsession with Smith.
Swift is not the only celebrity to express their admiration of Smith's vocals. Other personalities have been spotted in Smith's concerts as well, including Taylor Lautner, Khloe and Kim Kardashian, and Kristen Stewart.
Unfortunately, Smith lost to Beck for the Album of the Year. However, he proceeded to win the Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
"I just want to say that before I made this record, I was doing everything to try and get my music heard," Smith relayed when he accepted his Best Pop Vocal Album award. The singer also adds, "It was only until I started to be myself that the music started to flow and people started to listen."
"Stay with Me" is not the only song Blige and Smith collaborated on, as the two also sung "Therapy" from Blige's album, "The London Sessions."
Blige is already a veteran with winning Grammys trophies, currently having nine awards to her name, Music Times reports.
