Glee will be taking on Meghan Trainor's booty-licious smash hit, All About That Bass in the upcoming episode. The episode, entitled 'Transitioning' will deal with Coach Beiste coming into terms with his transformation into a man.
In the previous seasons of Glee, we have come to know Shannon Beiste (Dot Marie Jones) as the soft-hearted football coach of McKinley High with a rather tough exterior. The character also became a victim of domestic abuse and was diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Beiste would eventually come out as a transgender, but how is he coming into terms with this change?
Unique (Alex Newell) comes back to support Beiste as he makes a new transition in his life. The episode teases to be a coming into terms with change. Glee has been putting a lot of drama into the latest episodes, with the show coming into its final season.
The episode will also be an emotional one as Unique provides the beloved coach with an uplifting performance of 'I Know Where I Have Been' from the musical 'Hairspray'.
"Unique is back to make a little bit of a visit, and she's there to support Bieste and be that rock," said Newell. "There is so much heart in this episode."
Newell will be performing the iconic song with a 200-person transgender choir, and this is a feat that will certainly uplift fans of the show.
"It's the climactic moment in the episode where we reveal a 200-person, proud, strong, transgender choir," Glee's executive producer Dante DiLoreto said. "It is incredibly uplifting working with this choir. This isn't about tolerance, it's about coming home and coming home to who you really are -- and who you're meant to be and who you're meant to be with."
Mercedes (All About That Bass) will also be singing All About That Bass in the upcoming episode. It will be interesting to see how Riley will be covering the song as she always gives killer vocals.
