Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Comes to Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 4; Update to Hit US Shores Soon Despite Silence from Carriers

Samsung handsets are next in line in receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop updates, with the revamped OS made available for Samsung Galaxy S4 versions in India, Russia, Slovakia, Germany, and Czech Republic. No news is available for US versions yet.

European owners of Samsung Galaxy S4 already have the Android Lollipop 5.0 update, Latino Post shares. Particularly, models in India, Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Germany have already been reported to have the 1GB update that requires 3GB of installation space.

Lollipop is reported to take up more space than KitKat. With this, the update will take up 950MB more space than the previous OS version of the 2013 Samsung flagship handset.

However, the size is allegedly a trade-off for better performance, new features, and a fresh interface.

First to receive the Lollipop update is Galaxy S4 in Russia back on February 2, with India slowly receiving the update next.

Gotta be Mobile explains that the update is so far only available for Russian and Indian GT-19500 and Galaxy S4 LTE-A or GT-19506 handsets. No information on the release date for the international variant GT-19505 is available so far, but the article mentions a report from Italy saying it should come soon.

The article says: "According to Optima Magazine in Italy, the Galaxy S4 GT-19505 Lollipop update is currently in service centers in Germany ahead of its public release for Galaxy S4 users."

Meanwhile, US owners of the smartphone are still waiting for the update to reach their end.

According to Christian Today, US owners may need to be patient with waiting for their carriers to release the over-the-air update. "Patience is asked for as carriers are usually behind schedule when it comes to Android Lollipop rollouts," says the article.

Samsung's current flagship phone, Galaxy S5, is first to get the update, followed by Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S4.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Note 4 in Poland is allegedly already in beta testing for Android 5.0.1.

Galaxy Note 2 in Poland will also receive the update, as indicated in a Polish Twitter response, but no official announcement has been made yet. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is the "oldest" Samsung handset that will receive the update.

Users are advised that the update deletes apps such as Google Play Movies and Google Play Books "for memory optimization."

Prior to its release on select Samsung handsets, Android 5.0 Lollipop, which has been available since November, first landed on Nexus and Google Play edition devices, shares News Everyday.
