Oscar Pistorius Latest Trial Update: Paralympian Murderer Granted With New Privileges as a Category A Prisoner

By

The convicted Paralympian killer Oscar Pistorius is now granted with several privileges and perks after his prisoner status has been lowered from B group to Category A.

According to Daily Mail, this change in the prisoner status resulted from the decision of Kgosi Mampuru prison authorities in the South African capital, Pretoria, that the former Paralympian athlete did not show threat to security and it is said to be a standard procedure.

Oscar Pistorius who is a well-known collector of signature watches can now wear jewelry under the inmate privileges system. He can also be allowed to hug and kiss visitors, work on a hobby, make more phone calls, and have bigger budget for toiletries and snacks as well as own a radio.

A family source told MailOnline: "This has boosted him a lot. He has been very low in prison, although he seems to be getting all the support from the prison authorities that he needs.

"His new status means he will be able to have more visits - there are a lot of family members who would like to go and see him, but in the past have stayed away so that it is mostly Carl, Aimee, his aunt and grandmother who take the allocated slots."

South Africa's Eyewitness News has exposed that Oscar Pistorius receives royalty" treatments while in prison. As reported, one of Pistorius's cellblock neighbors is Radovan Krejcir who is a notorious Czech gangster. The two became training partners on Krejcir's private exercise equipment for a short while.

The 28-year-old was convicted for five-year imprisonment last October after he was found guilty of killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day of 2013.

At present, prosecutors has revealed that they are moving forward with plans to appeal culpable homicide conviction of Oscar Pistorius for killing Steenkamp.

South African prosecutors confirmed to have filed the papers to the High Court as Steenkamp's death two-year death anniversary is commemorated. He was cleared of murder charges but found guilty of culpable homicide or also referred to as manslaughter.

In this regard, prosecutors want to challenge the decision and receive the permission to make an appeal for conviction of murder crime. If they win the case, Oscar Pistorious will be spending 15 years in jail.
