Formula One Pre-season Testing Review: Williams tops final day; Will he earn 2nd spot in F1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2015?

By

Valtteri Bottas of Finland has aced the timesheets on the fourth day of the final test in Barcelona as Formula 1's pre-season. Bottas signed off the 2015 pre-season in style by going fastest for Williams last Sunday.

"It was a really good day and a great way to finish the test," Bottas said to Formula 1 site. "One of the main points we have learnt is that the FW37 is very reliable. The car we are taking to Melbourne is very competitive and should make for an interesting start to the season."

It was reported that Sebastian Vettel was second fastest for Ferrari, while Sauber's Felipe Nasr was the last man to get within one second of Bottas's benchmark in third. Like Bottas, Vettel and Nasr set their best times in morning runs on the supersoft.

Here's the unofficial Sunday testing times from Barcelona:

1. Valtteri Bottas, Williams, 1m 23.063s, 89 laps

2. Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari, 1m 23.469s, 129 laps

3. Felipe Nasr, Sauber, 1m 24.023s, 159 laps

4. Max Verstappen, Toro Rosso, 1m 24.527s, 85 laps

5. Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull, 1m 24.638s, 72 laps

6. Sergio Perez, Force India, 1m 25.113s, 130 laps

7. Nico Rosberg, Mercedes, 1m 25.186s, 148 laps

8. Jenson Button, McLaren, 1m 25.327s, 30 laps

9. Pastor Maldonado, Lotus, 1m 28.272s, 36 laps

Teams now have just less than two weeks to prepare for season-opening 2015 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix in March 15. Opening practice commences at 1230 local time on Friday, March 13.

Meanwhile, Bleach Report said that the pre-season testing, which Williams topped, was brought by the reliable strong Mercedes power train, and the team's performance on the time sheets.

According to the report "A day spent on pit-stop practice during the second test won't have done the operational side of the team any harm, and speed-trap data reported by Grand Prix 247-albeit from the second test-shows that the FW37 has retained the useful, low-drag characteristics of its predecessor"

It was also hinted that "Williams came in third in the 2014 Constructors' Championship. There's no reason they can't aim for second in 2015."
