Two years after working with a new development on Mad Max in the lab, Avalanche Studios and Warner Bros. have finally revealed its release on September 1 in North America and September 4 in the UK for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, while the release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 has been cancelled.
A 12-page cover story of Mad Max on Game Informer first made mention of the cancellation. According to the feature editorial, Avalanche has decided to leave the planned Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions to allow "the team to deliver stunning vistas and effects that will challenge...expectations of what the Wasteland might look like." It added: ""Much has changed since the game was announced at E3 a few years ago."
Warner Bros. has just released a statement regarding Mad Men's fate in Xbox 360 and PS3. The statement sent to VideoGamer.com said: "To ensure players get the best Mad Max experience possible, Avalanche Studios is focused 100% on developing the game for PS4, Xbox One and PC. This has allowed the studio to maximize the potential of those platforms and stay true to the core vision of Mad Max."
While PC version is expected huge, there are still some game consoles with mid-tier technology under the hood. The PC version could look twice as good as its console counterparts, the report said.
Meanwhile, the upcoming film Mad Max: Fury Road is due to arrive in theaters on May 15, four months before the video game will be out in consoles. The game version of Mad Max is set to be a post-apocalyptic open world adventure with on-foot action and vehicular combat.
Pre-order games come with a special body-kit upgrade for the Magnum Opus called The Ripper. This package comes in a "powerful V8 engine, upgraded exhaust with custom off-road tires, a ramming grill and a tuned suspension so it can take on a variety of Wasteland surfaces."
