Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is finally coming to Verizon's Nexus 6 devices as a reliable source connected to the mobile carrier confirmed yesterday in a post via social media that March 12 is the date.
A Reddit user codenamed Mh1781 posted an image confirming the latest firmware update. The information provides pricing information, freebies and features of Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. Verizon Nexus 6 will be available for purchase on March 12 at Verizonwireless.com, and on March 19 in stores.
Verizon just added Google's Nexus 6 to its leading phablet (smartphone/tablet) lineup following Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, and Apple's iPhone 6 Plus.
According to the source, Verizon's Nexus 6 device will cost $249 with a two-year contract, $699 without a contract, or $29.16 a month on Verizon's Edge plan. The purchase comes with a six-month Google Music Play trial. However, only the 32 GB Midnight Blue version will be available.
Android 5.0.1 Lollipop comes with VoLTE support, Material Design user-interface, and Tap and Go Set up. It will feature a more efficient swiping approach as the update will enable users to "swipe to get rid of the Quick settings menu and unlock the device" and even a new Wi-Fi toggle.
Users will have the opportunity to switch different connections (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.) and customization (Invert colors, etc.) from the notification slide as there will be arrow icons underneath each app for easy switching.
Android 5.0.1 Lollipop is far better than 5.0 as the latest upgrade will only take up lesser RAM than the previous' 1.2 GB. Normal usage is at 500 MB only. Fixes for sudden app closures have already been addressed.
Motorola Nexus 6 sports a 6-inch Quad HD display, a 13 MP camera, aluminum chassis, dual front speakers, 3 GB RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with a 2.7 GHz quad core CPU. The device boasts a 3,200 mAH battery from Project Volta, which can charge up the phone for six hours of use in just 15 minutes.
Nexus 6 also features Ambient Display, with almost similar function like that of Motorola Moto X 2014's Moto Display. The feature incorporates infrared sensors that can detect fingers when hovered over the screen display and suggests actions to do.
Google noted that through Ambient Display the device wakes up as soon as picking it up or its screen tapped twice. With mode turned on, stand-by time reaches up to 250 hours, while the device can be used for up to 330 hours when turned off.
On top of that, there is an option to protect user's privacy by setting multiple account. By creating a guest account, a user can alter what applications or services to be made available for friends and family. Nexus 6 is also child-friendly since the device enables account for children and place allowed apps there.
