In just two weeks, we'll be exactly one year away from the premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And yet, there's still one gigantic piece that's seemingly missing from the puzzle: a major villain. We already know that Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as Lex Luthor, the iconic Superman villain, but presumably there has to be some other, more physical villain, right? Someone who can actually take a punch from Superman, and go a few rounds in a major fight scene?
Well, it seems like we'd have heard something by now. Director Zack Snyder and Warner Bros have been releasing new images of Wonder Woman, Aquaman and other characters on a regular basis- presumably, we'll be seeing our first shot of Lex Luthor sometime soon. And with all that out of the way, it seems pretty obvious that the casting for Batman v Superman is over. There's no more characters left to add, and no more potential villains to announce. If there were any other villains joining the film, we'd know by now.
Though it's continually rumored that Joker or Doomsday (an ancient Kryptonian beast who once killed Superman in a famous story arc) could be a secret second villain alongside Lex Luthor, there's been no news of Jared Leto joining the film or any actors who might portray Doomsday. It's much more likely that Lex Luthor is our one villain, and that as far as any kind of physical combatants go, we'll probably be seeing fight sequences between Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, before they finally unite to form the Justice League.
This may disappoint some fans, who're hungry to see a slew of villains in the upcoming film, but there's bound to be dozens more DC comics films after this one. And plenty of new villains to insert into all of them- so we'll no doubt be seeing plenty of Joker, Doomsday and everyone else before long.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice premieres on March 25, 2016.
