Xiaomi Mi 4 had created a huge buzz to the world of smart phones. It is now considered as the "Apple of China" as many users had engaged in using the said phone. However, a recent buzz regarding a pre-installed malware had circulated around the web.
According to Bluebox, the new Xiaomi Mi 4 comes with a pre-installed spyware/adware and an unsecure Android operating system for which Xiaomi is denying. The Bluebox team had discovered on March 5 of this year that there were some critical flaws in the Mi 4 LTE smart phone. The phone according to VR-zone, had apps like Yt Service, PhoneGuardService, and AppStats which is actually at risk with Trojans, gets hacked easily, and attract more malware. However, Xiaomi had issued a statement to The Hacker News, "There are glaring inaccuracies in the Bluebox blog post."
"We have concluded our investigation on this topic - the device Bluebox obtained is 100% proven to be a counterfeit product purchased through an unofficial channel on the streets in China. It is therefore not an original Xiaomi product and it is not running official Xiaomi software, as Bluebox has also confirmed in their updated blog post."
This would imply that the Mi 4 smart phone that was inspected by Bluebox to be tampered. In response to this accusation by Bluebox, Xiaomi had released step by step explanation on how the device is tampered. First is that the physical hardware is marked differently from the original Mi 4. Second, the IMEI is a cloned number from a counterfeit device. Third, the software installed is not the official Xiaomi MIUI build. Fourth, Xiaomi had confirmed that the MIUI followed the exact Android Compatibility Definition Document and had passed all Android CTS test to affirm the compatibility of the device to the software.
