'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' to feature Karen Gillan? Nebula role confirmed for sequel

By

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is likely to add in a number of new cosmic Marvel superheroes alongside the ones we already know, but there are still characters from the first film that could use a little more attention. Specifically, Nebula. The villain, played by Karen Gillan, was hyped up in the marketing campaigns, but ended up doing precious little in the movie. Mostly, she stuck around Ronan's spaceship, had one good fight with Gamora at the end, then hijacked a spaceship and ditched out of the movie.

Hopefully, director James Gunn has much bigger plans for Nebula in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2- and as well, Gillan herself has been talking the role and her continued appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, Gillan stated that "I have a physical and emotional attachment to this hair. We'll have to see if I have to shave it. Maybe CGI will have developed further by the time we shoot it."

Which confirms two things. One, Gillan will definitely be returning in the second Guardians of the Galaxy film. And two, she'd prefer that her hair survive the filming process.

What kind of role might Nebula play in the second film? Well, it's doubtful she'd be the film's main villain. We've already seen her and understood the basics of her character in the first film; for number two the audience would probably be better served learning about an entirely new vilain. However, it's also unlikely that Nebula would be another secondary villain serving under the main one- what are the odds she'd find employment under another supervillain? Most likely, Nebula will be a rogue agent in the film- could she potentially turn good by the end? Anything's possible, considering how far away the second Guardians film is.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will premiere on July 28, 2017.
