'H1Z1' gamers unhappy with Daybreak plan to switch game to Battle Royale mode; Daybreak delaying plan due to gamers’ dismay

"H1Z1" gamers aired their disappointment in Daybreak Game Company's plan to shift the game's subscription via Battle Royale monthly pass. Gamers complained that the game developers monetized the game too early without first fixing the main game mode.

Daybreak laid out the plan after realizing how popular Battle Royale grew in the first two months it was introduced. They initialized Battle Royale via Early Access; add to that they would be announcing paid access for the mode same as when they started paid airdrops.

The "H1Z1" Battle Royale mode would have the gamer para-dropped on a map in a limited period of time. During the duration of the gamer's exploration of the map, the gamer would have to annihilate all the other gamers sent down the area. The surviving gamer would be able to grab loot and weapons from defeated gamers. Also, they could buy valuable items that could be airdropped. After 20 minutes, the gamers would see the land area shrink due to toxic gas cloud. Thus, eliminating all the gamers eventually.

Gamers complained that Daybreak was sacrificing the main game of "H1Z1" for the income they would be making through paid incentives, passes and access via Battle Royale mode of "H1Z1." However, other gamers just went with the flow as they argued the game would eventually take that path.

Meanwhile, "H1Z1" was Daybreak's MMO zombie survival game. It was originally set-up as free to play. However with the Battle Royale mode, gamers had to pay US$6.99 in order to get a 30-day unlimited access. With all the noise caused by the plan to monetize the game, Daybreak eventually gave in and stepped back.

Daybreak Game Company President John Smedley said that they heard the gamers' concerns. With that, they would be focusing on the games bugs and deliver an even better main game. However, Smedley clarified that the company was clear on what it planned to do with the game in the first place. With the changes and improvements they would be including in "H1Z1," they hope gamers would be happy about it and eventually be open to pay for it in the future.
