The release date of PS4 Slim is expected to be either this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo or in 2016. These timeframes are shorter compared to the gaps between the arrival of one Sony consoles and another in the previous decades. But as Product Review had noted last year, it is not likely for Sony to release the slim variant of the PS4 closely to its predecessor.
The reviewer mentioned two reasons why this is unlikely to happen. One is the need of developers to gather feedback from users of the PS4 and the other is the need for Sony to add PS3 backward compatibility. These would indeed demand time and focus from Sony, but unless the PS4 is making Sony's profits for video consoles skyrocket like with Apple's iPhone 6 that shouldn't hinder Sony from starting developing new ones.
Sony no longer needs that reminder as it apparently has been developing the PS4 Slim. Speculations about the project-in-progress PS4 Slim become strong when photos of the said device leaked on the web.
Based on the leaked images, the upcoming PS4 Slim will have better hardware and stability as it will come with a more compact and well-built design. It will also use SSD in place of the standard HDD so that developers can optimize existing video games at full 1080p resolution. Using SSD would mean a costlier device since it is more expensive than.
It is also said that the optical Blu-Ray drive will be removed to make the slimmer lighter video game console that is the PS4 Slim possible. This one rumor is not well-received though by PS4 and Sony video game console users. If Sony can make the PS4 Slim load times put to a minimum and transferring of files a breeze by removing the Blu-Ray card, as what rumors are claiming, then that sacrifice could be worth taking. Isn't it?
The PS4 Slim date has a codename "Monolith". More details will possibly be released before June, the month where E3 2015 will be held and purported to be the release date of the PS4 Slim.
