'Fantastic Four' Update: Did Fox Inadvertently Reveal the Face of ‘The Thing’?

By

Did 20th Century Fox inadvertently reveal the face of Fantastic Four character The Thing? Recently, a photo of an international poster of the upcoming superhero film reboot has surfaced online, featuring all the four major characters including Jamie Bell's Ben Grimm post-transformation.

This is the first time that the rocky character's appearance in the Fantastic Four remake is revealed, as it has not been shown in any official trailers and posters of the movie released so far, according to IB Times.

The photo, posted on Instagram by an overseas fan who had it taken as he stood in front of the billboard, shows a new group shot of the Fantastic Four: Miles Teller as Reed Richards a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as Sue Storm a.k.a. Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm a.k.a. The Human Torch, and Jamie Bell as The Thing.

Meanwhile, the movie's main villain Victor Domashev a.k.a. Dr. Doom, played by Toby Kebbell, is not shown on the billboard. Similar with The Thing, the image of Dr. Doom is yet to be released officially, although there were previous reports of the character's images being leaked online.

Fox's Fantastic Four reboot has generated controversy among fans of the Marvel superheroes since it was officially announced. The new movie casting is one of the highly criticized, as the remake chose to cast a boyish-looking actor (Teller) for Reed Richards' role, a non-Caucasian looking star (Jordan) as Johnny Storm, and a less hulky actor (Bell) for the role of The Thing.

Now with the latest photo revealing the face of The Thing, which the producers had been trying to keep secret, Fox apparently is now dealing with what some described as a mismanaged reveal. Some media outlets claim that the studio has been accused of mishandling media and promotions for the rebooted film. The overseas outdoor billboard was built before the official imagery of the film is released, sparking some controversy.

The first film in the rebooted Fantastic Four franchise is scheduled to hit theaters on August 7. A sequel, The Fantastic Four 2, is slated for release in 2017.
