From heads sliced in half with a razor-blade hat to ripping a grown man's body to shreds with bare hands, Mortal Kombat X rendered this parade of outlandish gory executions beautifully. The violence-riddled game will not only be a personal experience, but a competitive one as a Mortal Kombat tournament is announced to all Xbox users in the world by the netherRealm sudios.
The said tournament is set to coincide with the release of the new MK instalment on April 14 with the winner claiming a prize pool that starts off with $100,000. Gamers all over the world are encouraged to join this event as the tournament will start in April and ends in July at the Japan Expo in Paris, France.
However, the news that is circulating with game critics today is how Mortal Kombat X live up to the 'gory' days of old where censors forced the removal of blood entirely from the game. According to Kotaku, Mortal Kombat X fatalities are 'bloody as hell.'
The comment seemed to be 'toned down' as a stronger, much vulgar expressive interjection seemed to be more appropriate to describe the outlandish brutal killing methods shown in the game. Kotaku have also placed a marathon of fatalities that is gut-cringing to watch.
Ed Boon, one of the pioneer designers for the MK series said in an interview with Gamespot on the question about the violence, that the game is intended for a mature audience of about '29 or 30 years.'
Boon said that '...All of a sudden, video games were getting sophisticated enough to present something in a much more realistic way' pointing out that portraying gory details of violence is now possible. He agrees that the game is not for everybody, but they will continue to break cultural norms especially in depicting extreme violence in games.
Mortal Kombat X upgrades its vicious escapade by adding not only fatalities and brutalities, but x-ray execution moves. This is where gamers can see bones shatter and internal organs ripped apart through instant x-ray vision. Though the game inches close to the censor limits, it is still a success and many are excited to start hammering away on their joysticks as they kill off every character that stands in their way. Mortal Kombat X will be released hopefully in April, finally quenching the blood lust Mortal Kombat fans have.
