Xiaomi has confirmed that Mi 5 will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The China-based tech manufacturer's upcoming flagship handset will have MIUI 7 as custom user interface that is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
It was confirmed through the announcement posted by Android Open Kang Project on its official blog. A part of the announcement say that "with all the pieces of the deal in place, I wish to announce that all Team Kang members are working with Xiaomi on a new and refreshed MIUI 7, which will be finally based on Android 5.1, and be coming on the Mi 5." This also revealed the current collaboration between Xiaomi and team Kang.
The MIUI 7 will evolve with the user as the UI manufacturer promises that it will have highly personalized features. It also clarifies that the team up wit Xiaomi does not mean that the acquisition rumors are true.
If the Mi 5 is already assured of having the Android 5.1 Lollipop support, Xiaomi devices in India also seem to be receiving the Android 5.0 update soon. In MUIU forums, a beta version of Android 5.0 is said to be on its way to Xiaomi Mi 3, Mi 4, Redmi 1s, and Note, including those sold in India.
Another smartphone brand that is getting the Android 5.0 update soon is HTC for One M8 and One M9. AT&T will be rolling out its Android 5.0 Lollipop update to HTC One M8 in April 6, while HTC One 7 users in the US and HTC One M8 from Verizon and T-Mobile have already received the update. The Android 5.0 update also has been rolled out to HTC One M8 devices in Europe as well as with HTC One M7 Google Play Edition version.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is also expected to arrive in these devices: Desire Eye, Butterfly 2, One E8, One E8 Dual-Sim, and the One M8 Dual-Sim, and other HTC devices not mentioned. Mediatek-powered phones will have to wait for confirmation as it is still under evaluation. There's also no mention about Desire 820.
