Mad Max: Fury Road isn't just a big box-office draw this summer- it's also a huge event just for its opening trailers alone. The next installment in the Mad Max series will be the first time anyone can see the first trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It's kind of a big deal, considering the only footage anyone has ever seen of the upcoming DC Comics film was a leaked Comic-Con teaser from last year. Since then, it's been near-silent from Warner Bros on the superhero front, other than a few short picture teases of some major characters- Aquaman and Lex Luthor.
But now, audiences know exactly when and where they can line up to see the first real footage of Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor (also Henry Cavill as Superman... but we've already seen him before). That may be a huge boost to Mad Max: Fury Road's box office potential. It's not as though the Tom Hardy-starring sequel to the classic Mel Gibson action film needed a particularly large boost (while the Mad Max name may be getting a little stale, Hardy's a massive star and the film's advertising campaign has been doing remarkably well, drumming up enormous anticipation for the film). Still, it's very possible that the presence of a real Batman v Superman trailer before the film is the extra boost to propel Mad Max: Fury Road to summer box office dominance.
And if the film is successful, it's nearly a guarantee that we'll see more Mad Max films starring Hardy and co-stars Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (assuming, of course, that all those characters survive the first film). Recently, Hardy spoke about the possibility of a sequel: "I've never been more excited and out of my comfort zone." Hardy adds, as far as sequel chances go, that "everything's based on figures and how things are perceived. Inevitably it's a business."
