Jared Leto's photo inspired by a cover from probably the most controversial Batman graphic novel has been posted by the "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer. With this, it is safe to assume that Ayer is using The Killing Joke as basis for his version of The Joker in the upcoming DC movie.
Prior to the online circulation of Jared Leto's The Joker photo, David Ayer has been sharing pictures of "Suicide Squad" cast members. However, fans quickly noticed the exclusion of Leto in the said images. Then the director later posted a photo of Jared Leto in a chilling imitation of The Killing Joke cover that created uproar among the anxious fans of the "Squad."
Jared Leto will be the next actor to portray the Clown Prince of Crime in the big screen after Heath Ledger. Jared Leto has once said that his interpretation of The Joker in "Suicide Squad" will be different from that of Ledger's portrayal in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Night and from Jack Nicholson's in the 1989 Batman movie. Leto emphasized that his version of The Joker will be "comedic" compared to the previous ones. Now that word is interesting since the last time that the iconic DC villain was presented as comedic was during the 1960s Batman television series played by Cesar Romero.
However, Jared Leto's latest photo is a spot-on imitation of The Killing Joke graphic novel. So maybe he and Ayer is going for a "comedic" yet contentious version of The Joker. Fans are also expecting that Leto will be seen wearing the classic white and purple suit that The Joker wore in the original story and animated series.
DC movies are definitely making a buzz right now and it is sure to continue in the following years since DC has a strong cinematic universe line up (Yes we're talking about "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Wonder Woman" movie). With the current online clamor created by Jared Leto's The Joker photo, theater houses will be surely plagued by superhero fans once "Suicide Squad" is released on 2016.
