In true Madonna fashion, the singer-songwriter dubbed as Queen of Pop surprised tens of thousands of viewers last Sunday night with a kiss. That is, a steamy kiss with Canadian rapper Drake who was headlining the Coachella event. The bold move was all over Internet in a matter of seconds to mixed reactions. Some were calling it Madonna being Madonna while some are suggesting that it can be considered a sexual assault based on the rapper's reaction.
Coachella 2015
The kissing controversy between Madonna and Drake happened during Coachella which is an annual music and arts festival held in Indio, California. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival started in 1999, was not held in 2000, and then picked up in 2001 to this day. Many popular names in the music industry have been known to play at the said event. Some of the more popular bands to have graced the Coachella Music Fest 2015 include Rage Against The Machine, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cure, and AC/DC.
The Kiss
The kiss happened during the tail end of Madonna's rendition of "Human Nature". She bent over the sitting Drake and planted the kiss much to the surprise of the latter. Drake appeared to have been grossed out by the kiss but he recently stated that it was the lipstick that made him blanch. Madonna on the other hand is unfazed by criticisms thrown her way by netizens. Of course, this is not the first time that Madonna has kissed younger talents. In 2003, she kissed both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during their performance.
Whether the kiss was a planned stunt or something that Madonna just came up with while performing, it is plain to see that the issue has place them in the spotlight. For celebrities like Madonna and Drake, any publicity is still publicity after all.
