After official announcement last month, PS Vita gets the 3.50 update that frees up 30% of its memory increasing its performance. This gives PS Vita users more memory to spare when playing existing and upcoming games for the handheld. Though the update gives users a good memory boost, does it hint of future plans for the Vita and the PS4 as well?
On the initial release of the PS Vita, it was plagued with bugs and problems that it quickly dwindled down in sales compared to Nintendo's handheld 3DS. However, due to massive fixes and hard hitting titles on the Vita, the tide is starting to change.
With the new update and more memory space, more titles can be crammed into this pocket-sized gaming console. Also according to IGN, the update improved remote play to support 60fps streaming. This is a welcome news as it allows PS4 users to remote play on their Vitas with optimum quality. Other improvements include an enlarged text, the removal of maps and every apps that used maps as well.
This move maybe in preparation for upcoming game releases this year. Among of these are Resident Evil 2- Episode 1-4, Tales from the Borderland, Taiko Drum Master and more. A helpful list is provided by IGN on upcoming games for the handheld.
The update also fueled speculations of the possibility to have the same kind of memory boosting updates for the PS4 as a number of hard-hitting, triple-A games are set for release on the said console. Many are hoping that Sony will give a few extra memory boost to ensure game performance.
Though no confirmation that such software is in the works, Sony must logically step up their upgrading mechanism to continually improve their latest gaming console. The PS Vita is one of Playstation projects that hasn't been given that much attention lately. Though with a number of new games in the works and upgrades that will improve the handheld's system, the future looks bright to this Sony gadget.
