Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge under U.S. Cellular has started receiving the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update beginning today.
Android 5.0.1 Lollipop will come through over-the-air (OTA) update which Google will notify every device through the network that the update is ready for download. However, if not notified by any automatic prompt, users can use Samsung Kies through Windows PC, or manual upgrade can be done by heading over to Settings > About device > Software update > Check for updates > OK > Continue > Done.
For Samsung Kies, connect device to PC using USB cable > Open Kies > Click firmware upgrade > Follow on screen instructions. Make sure the device is registered to a Google account. The update is massive which requires the download to use a Wi-Fi connection. It comes in stages which means some regions will experience it first before the other.
To verify whether the update is now available, go to Settings > About device. The base band for the galaxy Note 4 should now be N910R4TYU1BOC4, while the Galaxy Note Edge is N915R4TYU1BOC5.
Android 5.0.1 Lollipop will bring in the Material Design 5.0 has, plus a lock screen notifications. Smart lock enables users to unlock phone by pairing it with a trusted device. The 64-bit ART compiler allows apps to launch faster, while the Project Volta-powered battery will improved its capacity. The new Recent Apps is also improved in this update.
The update brings several bug fixes and small changes that Google has overlooked in Android 5.0 update. Nevertheless, there have been no reported problems so far with the update unlike its release for the device's version in Verizon, Sprint and AT&T that had been plagued with errors. In just a matter of days, the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update will also make rounds in several countries in East Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Galaxy Note 4 started receiving the stock firmware upgrade since February in South Korea and European regions. Among other Samsung devices that has already received the update are Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy Note 3.
