PS4 once again the number 1 selling console in the US amidst decline in overall hardware sales

By

The NPD Group has revealed that the Playstation 4 is at the top of the sales charts yet again, but a trend within the video game industry may portend trouble for everyone involved. The console lost out on the top spot back in February to Nintendo's 3DS thanks in large part to the release of the console's new model.

As for the other parties involved in the console wars, Microsoft expressed optimism over the findings of the NPD Group regarding their own console sales, according to Gamespot.

The reason for the company's optimism is based on the Xbox One managing to outpace the sales figures of its older brother, the Xbox 360, at what is basically the same juncture in the console's life.

Nintendo also chose to stick to the positive news regarding their sales, citing the 80 percent increase in sales of the 3DS in 2015 when compared to the numbers at the same point last year. When it comes to the top-selling games of March, the Xbox One's "Battlefield: Hardline" is the one which reigns supreme, according to Playstation Lifestyle.

Placing second on the list of the month's chart toppers is the Playstation 4 title "Bloodborne." The game managed to place second on the list despite only having about a week and a half of its sales counted by the NPD Group for the month. For the month of March, the NPD Group tracked the hardware and software sales from March 1 to April 4.

In related news, new hardware sales for the video game industry fell by 20 percent in the month of March, according to CNET. The total dollar amount for console sales in the month of March added up to $311 million. According to the NPD Group, the actual number of consoles sold in the month only fell by 9 percent when compared to a year before, but due to prices dropping for the consoles, the figures fell even further.
