Warner Bros is not taking any chances with the big screen adaptation of Wonder Woman. Just a few short days after director Michelle MacLaren walked away from the project, the studio announced the hiring of TV director Patty Jenkins to take over the project.
This will not be the first time that Jenkins' name has been attached to a superhero movie. In 2011, she was tabbed to direct the movie "Thor: The Dark World" but incidentally had to walk away due to creative differences. Other projects that she handled were "Monster" in 2003, "Five" in 2011, and "Velocity Rules" in 2001.
The movie adaptation of the comic book character is an important project for Warner Bros as they are aiming to match Marvel's shared universe. Wonder Woman is set to join the list of DC comic book heroes to grace the silver screen. Batman and Superman will both be featured in the upcoming "Batman v Superman" movie where Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman will also make an appearance.
Aside from the "Wonder Woman" film that will start shooting this fall, the studio is also developing a movie around another superhero in Aquaman. Two Justice League movies are also being planned, the first one of which is scheduled for release in 2017 while the second one is slated for a 2019 release.
The announcement of Jenkins' hiring to direct the movie means she will be joining several names that have been confirmed to join the project. Scott Eastwood for instance has been cast to play Wonder Woman's love interest, Steve Trevor. Geoff Johns, Stephen Jones, and Benny Medina are the executive producers for the film.
With Patty Jenkins on board, development of the movie will now reach a new phase and fans of the character should tune in for more exciting news.
