George RR Martin Reveals "The World of Ice and Fire" Details and Major Bloopers in Writing the ‘Game of Thrones’ Books

George RR Martin revealed that he created a lot of mistakes while writing the "Game of Thrones" books, but thankfully, his fans were able to spot his errors. Now, these so-called 'super-fans' are working under Martin to make sure that he will not make the same mistake again.

In an interview with Salon's Laura Miller, "A Song of Fire and Ice" author, George RR Martin recounted the time when he hired fans to fact-check his books after these fans were able to spot a couple of mistakes from Martin's books. At the 92Y event, Martin recounted that one of the earliest letters came from Elio M. Garcia and Linda Antonsson, who started getting in touch with him since the early 90s. Martin said that Garcia and Antonsson immediately displayed an "obsessive knowledge" of his world, which even led to him altering parts of that world.

Martin admitted that he invented a lot of King's names and dates to put in between the notable characters in the book, which he initially thought was going to work until he wrote "The Tales of Dunk and Egg" book, "The Hedge Knight," which according to him was set 90 years before the "A Song of Fire and Ice" story. He said that Garcia and Antonsson immediately noted the age discrepancies from book one and admitted that he had to go through all the dates in the book and check if Garcia and Antonsson were right.

"I had to change the list of Targaryen kings, and someone who had previously been a son now became a younger brother," he wittily said in a video posted on Business Insider.

Martin revealed that it was that moment that he was truly impressed with Garcia and Antonsson's dedication to his books. Martin said that he signed the contract with Garcia and Antonsson back in 2008 to outline everything for him to polish.

Elio Garcia and Linda Antonsson are now the team behind Westeros. According to the Westeros website, Garcia and Antonsson have been fans of the series since 1997 and are currently working together with Martin on "The World of Ice and Fire."
