Bobbi Kristina Brown's grandmother Cissy Houston has given a more detailed update on Bobbi's condition, following Bobby Brown's surprising remarks this weekend that his daughter was "awake" after months of being in a coma.
In a statement released Monday, Houston said her granddaughter indeed "is no longer in a medically induced coma" but that "she has a tracheotomy and according to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive."
"Meeting with the doctors and understanding that she can live in this condition for a lifetime truly saddens me," Houston added. "We can only trust in God for a miracle at this time. Keep us in your prayers."
A source with knowledge on Bobbi's condition told CNN that the 22-year-old daughter of late superstar Whitney Houston remains in the same neurological state she has been in for the past months. While Bobbi is not in a coma or sedated, she does not respond to anyone, not even to familiar faces and voices, and she has a tracheostomy in her throat, the source said.
It can be recalled that Bobbi's father Bobby Brown has recently grabbed headlines after making shocking comments on his daughter's current state during his concert in Dallas on Saturday. "I can say today, Bobbi is awake," Brown told the audience, who then cheered. "She's watching me."
However, on Monday a lawyer for the Brown family issued a statement to clarify Bobby's earlier comments. According to Atty. Christopher Brown, "Bobbi Kristina's condition has changed" and improved, and that "doctors have indicated that she will have a long life." However, he said Bobbi is currently going through a rehabilitation process and that her quality of life will not be known in the coming years.
The 46-year-old R&B singer thanked people who have kept supporting and praying for his daughter. "God is hearing our prayers," Bobby said in a statement.
Bobbi Kristina Brown, the only daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, was found facedown and unconscious in a bathtub at her Atlanta home on January 31. In early February she was placed in a medically induced coma and has stayed dependent on life support measures.
After being treated in a hospital in Atlanta for weeks, Bobbi was transferred to a long-term care facility in mid-March. Her prognosis remains unclear until now, according to media reports.
