New 'Witcher 3' video becomes subject of controversy after advertising Xbox version with PC footage

What Microsoft initially intended to be a nice, little way to advertise "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" being on the Xbox One has suddenly turned into an unpleasant situation thanks to what critics observe as misrepresentation of the game's graphics.

The controversy began when the Xbox YouTube channel premiered a new video for the game with the console's logo clearly seen throughout. Given how the video was being presented, it was easy for anyone to assume that the footage being shown came from the console itself.

The only problem is that the footage didn't actually come from an Xbox One, and instead came from the PC version of "The Witcher 3," according to Kotaku.

Proving even further that the footage came from the PC and not the Xbox One is the fact that the video can be shown at 60fps. Only the PC version of the game can run at 60fps, the Playstation 4, and also the Xbox One versions of the game are locked in at 30fps as CD Projekt Red, the game's developer, has already said in the past.

Several comments on the YouTube video also point out the issue with the fps. Even the developers themselves have already confirmed that the footage is indeed from the PC version of the game. Microsoft has since apologized for the confusion caused by the video, according to Gamespot.

The company also said they never explicitly said that the footage came from the Xbox One. The video now comes with a disclaimer saying that it is indeed showing footage from the PC version of "The Witcher 3."

Despite the controversy, the footage still does provide people with a look into the game they have never had previously, according to Eurogamer. The footage shows the game's protagonist, Geralt, as he makes his way through the world of "The Witcher 3."

"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" will be released on May 19 for the Xbox One, PC, and Playstation 4.
