Sony Corp. quietly launched the latest system software update for PS4 aimed to fix minor issues and bring improvements to the previous PS4 firmware build. PS4 Update 2.51 roll out began on April 21st and should be now available to PS4 console owners across North America and Europe.
Update 2.51 brings no new features to the PS4 system unlike the previous 2.50 update. Instead, update 2.51 is focused primarily on providing players with more stability and improving features previously existing in the game. The small 245 MB size of the update already implies that it won't be providing much change to the system software.
The update was provided with rather brief patch notes including the improvement of system software stability during the use of some features in the PS4 interface. Furthermore, operation quality during the use of some applications was also improved. The update expands the massive 2.50 update which brought a lot of new features to the PS4 interface. However, it still did not fix much of the issues concerning update 2.50.
For instance, update 2.51 did not fix a certain bug that some players have been experiencing since the release of update 2.50 last March 26. The bug concerns the continuous pop up of the Discover notification explaining Rest Mode every time the PS4 is turned on.
Update 2.50 was codenamed Yukimura and was the last major system software update for PS4. It addressed the much requested Suspend/Resume feature allowing players to directly resume where they left off mid-game from Rest Mode. A few days after the release of update 2.50, PS4 received the PlayStation Music feature powered by Spotify which allowed gamers to listen to music while playing.
PS4 updates doesn't really go off smoothly. Bugs and issues usually arise a few days after the update release. Update 2.50 was not excused as players experienced much problems with it which have not yet been fixed until now. It is not guaranteed that the PS4 update 2.51 roll out will be any smoother so it is advisable for players to wait a few days before updating.
