Vince Gilligan of 'Breaking Bad' to Direct the New 'Jack and the Beanstalk' Film?

By

Vince Gilligan, the creator of hit TV series "Breaking Bad" and spin-off "Better Call Saul" looks like the man to direct a new Jack and the Beanstalk film with the story's acquisition by Disney. The latest movie project retelling the classic English folk tale of Jack and the giant beanstalk is still on its very early stages but Gilligan directing is considered a possibility. Aside from Gilligan, another name attached to the project is that of Mark Johnson who will co-produce with Gilligan.

Gilligan's name is steadily on the rise since he created the story for "Breaking Bad". Successful during its four season run, "Breaking Bad" even spawned the spin-off series, "Better Call Saul" which revolves around the story of a minor character and small-time lawyer named Saul Goodman before he appeared on "Breaking Bad".

Gilligan's Beanstalk movie would be the latest retelling of the folk tale after the "Jack The Giant Slayer" movie released in 2013. The said movie was directed by Bryan Singer.

Although the movie raked in more than $197 million worldwide it is considered a disappointment as the movie had a budget of $195 million. Although not a massive financial success, it showed that there are still plenty of viewers interested in seeing a big screen adaptation of the timeless story.

Gilligan's body of work is indeed impressive but he is yet to direct a movie. Will this Jack and the Beanstalk movie be his first directing project? Will he achieve the same success in the big screen as he had on TV?

The answers to these questions will be a long time coming since the project is just starting. With Gilligan's flair for storytelling though, fans of the story could be in for major twists and surprises especially with Thomas Schnauz on board. Schnauz who also worked on "Breaking Bad" will be writing the script for the film adaptation.
