"The Witcher 3" always used its enormous world as one of its main selling points, and it sure seems as though the people behind the title may have even undersold just how impressive the game's world truly is. The actual measurements of the game's map places it around 136km2, but that only accounts for No Man's Land, Novigrad, and Skellige Islands. Aside from those locations, there are 6 other different distinct regions within the game that players will be able to reach whose measurements are still unaccounted for.
That would mean 136km2 is an incomplete measurement of the world inside the game. 136km2 itself may be difficult to scale in terms of sheer game size, but the only thing players should really know is how it compares to other open world titles.
When compared to Skyrim, one of the most successful and popular open world titles, the map of "The Witcher 3" is 3.5 times larger, according to Gaming Bolt, at 136 to 39. Far Cry 4 was another wildly successful open world title with a map coming in at right around 46km 2, but that would still be less than 3 times the size of the map in "The Witcher 3." Even when the map of "GTA V" is brought in for the sake of comparison, it is still dwarfed by "The Witcher 3" at 136 to 81.
The game map is split up into two distinct sections for "The Witcher 3" between the prologue section and the Northern Realm, so the immense measurements figure to be divvied up among those regions, according to Destructoid. The giant world of the game is not just for show however, as it is also filled with diverse characters.
In a Gamespot interview with the game's lead character artist Pawel Mielniczuk, he said the development team created a wide range of different body parts and then simply mixed and matched all of them to create the diverse array of character models.
"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" will be launched on May 19 for the PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
